Here at Fred Mertz Team, our work technically falls into a lot of different categories, such as “Alberta agricultural land sales,” “tax planning,” “succession planning for farms,” and so on. But, we don’t think any of those terms really best describe what we do, since our role is somewhat unique.
When you get down to the bottom of it, the most important things we do for farming families fall into three categories:
Helping them explore the possibility of selling a family farm and/or making a lifestyle change. It isn’t unusual for us to meet with farmers, or agricultural landowners, who aren’t really sure whether they want to move on from farming or not. We can help them explore the financial, practical, and emotional issues involved.
Assisting them with the logistics of Alberta farm sales. Selling a farm is a complex transaction. We help farmers and families determine the real value of their land, manage negotiations, paperwork and tax planning. Our discovery day process helps anchor the decision for selling or buying.
Helping them transition financially to their new lives. For most of our clients, the family farm isn’t just a business; it’s a way of life and the family’s most valuable asset. So, we work with them to ensure that, after the transaction has been completed, they know how to handle the large sum of money they have received and ensure that it will take care of them for a long time to come.
In our opinion, performing any of these services without the others is essentially useless. That’s why, unlike a lot of Realtors®, we don’t just manage transactions – we plan and provide options through the whole process knowing that you have a tough, complicated, and emotional decision in front of you. Focusing on client goals and aligning interests creates success and the continuation of your well-being. We’ll do everything we can to make the process as easy as possible, to help you find the options that are right for you, and to ensure that you and your family are taken care of after the sale.
